Born in 2002, Irina has already managed to earn the reputation of fairy-tale ballerina. At only 14 years old, she has an impressive track record, managing to be on the highest steps of the podium in almost all national and international competitions in which she participated, gathering a total of over 25 medals and diplomas, mostly for the first place. Among the distinctions obtained in her age category, we mention the award for “the most elegant dancer” or “most promising performer.”
In 2013, Irina was ranked third in classical dance at the World Ballet Competition gala in the USA where she also received the special jury prize. She is the only gold medalist of the seventh edition of the World Ballet Competition, WBC Open Romania 2014. Irina also won an award of excellence and the fifth place in the finals of the WBC in Orlando, Florida, USA.
In 2015, Irina Tarău competed in three major dance competitions: Young Stars Ballet Competition, Youth America Grand Prix and the Romanian National Olympics in Choreography. At YSBC, Irina won silver medals in both classical – Satanella – and contemporary – Up Down – sections. These medals granted Irina a full program summer intensive scholarship to Kozlova’s dance Conservatory in New York. Irina won the gold medal in the National Olympics in Choreography, classical dance section.
Since the age of ten she has had two projects with the Bucharest National Opera house, for the shows “Corsair” and “Snow White.”
Monica Petrică, prima-ballerina of the Romanian Opera, nominated Irina for the Ciprian Marica Foundation scholarship, as she discovered the young talent at the Romania Dances TV-show. Irina impressed her with her modesty and perseverance, and her family with the efforts made to support their daughter’s dream. The financial resources of Irina’s family, rather limited, are entirely directed to her education, in the spirit of performance and respect. With the scholarship received from Ciprian Marica Foundation, Irina now has ballet slippers, equipment and support for travel to various competitions, such as the World Ballet Competition.
